CNN’s anchor Jake Tapper admitted on Tuesday during a pointed exchange with Megyn Kelly who apologized to Lara Trump to dismiss his concerns about Joe Bidit’s cognitive decrease during a 2020 viral interview.
Tapper told Kelly that he felt “tremendous humility” about his former president’s coverage while connecting his next book, “Original sin: the decline of President Biden, his coverage and his disastrous choice to run again,” at his podcast.
In the book, Tapper and co -author Alex Thompson, a CNN contributor, details how democratic insiders protected Biden’s status from the public point of view because they feared a second term of Trump.
“He saw something he did not see at that time – 100% – and I, me,” said Tapper about Lara Trump during the tense interview with “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
Tapper, pressed by Kelly about if he had apologized, Tapper replied, “I apologized. I called her months ago.”
He said that the conversation “went well” and that the Nora of the President clarified that he never wanted to make fun of Biden’s stutter.
“After researching this book and realized the evil that their acuity problems were, I called Lara Trump and I said,” You were right, “Tapper said.
His guilt was about four years too late. In a 2020 CNN interview with Lara Trump, Tapper abruptly ended his conversation after transmitting a clip to joke about Biden’s speech.
“Joe, you can take away, let’s leave the words, Joe,” he told the clip.
Tapper accused her of mockery -a disability: “How do you think you make young children with wallets feel when they see you comment like this?”
Lara Trump turned back, saying: “First, I had no idea that Joe Biden has ever suffered a stutter. I think what we see on stage with Joe Biden, Jake, is very clearly a cognitive decline.”
Tapper said goodbye, “I think you have mocked from stuttering. I think you have no position to diagnose someone’s cognitive decline.”
Following the news of Tapper’s book, Lara Trump reigned the critique of the exchange.
“It seems like a good time to remind everyone that by 2020 Jake Tapper, first, accused me of mocking -me of people with a stuttering (an atrocious indictment) and then tried to close -and ended our interview when I tried to warn the people of Joe Biden’s very obvious cognitive problems,” he published in X earlier this year, sharing the 2020 footage next to the screens. He suggested that Tapper’s framing allowed Biden to evade real accounts, especially at a time when public doubts about his mental form intensified.
In response, Tapper acknowledged the omission, saying, “This is correct. I didn’t.”
He defended his decision, noting that the interview addressed heavy issues such as foreign policy and war in Ukraine, but accepted with later vision that he wanted to pressure stronger by Biden’s mental acuity.
“I look back my coverage with humility,” he said. “Hopefully I would have covered the age and sharp problems, but I would like to have covered much more.”
Kelly did not show up in his critic, arguing that the failure of the media from Press Biden allowed a greater “coverage” to persist, which is now dissected in his own book.
